The Carnival ‘Fun-ternship’ Program offers a unique opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to gain hands-on experience in the cruise industry this summer. Through a partnership with Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services and Carnival Cruise Line, the program will provide a six-week paid internship experience. The opportunity is open to rising juniors and seniors in the greater NYC area who are at least 17 years old and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. To apply for the program, applicants must submit several key documents, including a completed application, a letter of good standing, a resume, and a cover letter. Selected students will also participate in an interview as part of the final decision process.
The program is the first of its kind and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of port operations. Interns will support the embarkation and debarkation process as guests board and leave Carnival ships – without traveling on the ships themselves. They will earn $20 an hour while gaining behind-the-scenes exposure to port operations. Students will also receive training and mentorship from Carnival employees, as well as access to exclusive opportunities such as cruise ship tours and “lunch and learn” sessions aimed at career exploration.
The internship program is led by David Candib, vice president of Port Operations at Carnival Cruise Line, who emphasizes that the experience will be more than just a fun summer job. “It will be an opportunity for young people to develop professional skills, build confidence and leadership abilities, and gain experience in a part of the travel industry that directly impacts their community’s economy,” Candib said. Applications for the program are due by May 1, and organizers encourage students to apply as soon as possible, as space is limited.
